Hiawatha Girls and Boys Claim Big 7 League Cross Country Titles

Big 7 League Meet – Girls Results & Boys Results

The Big 7 League cross country meet was held Thursday night at Riverside high school, and it was Hiawatha who dominated the night taking first place as a team on both the girls and boys sides.

On the girls side the Redhawks finished with four runners inside of the top 15, led by Elizabeth Kettler who won her fourth straight Big 7 League individual title with a time of 19:14 to win by 40 seconds. Hiawatha also had Kate Madsen take second, Mary Rosa sixth and Jasmine Morey 11th.

The Sabetha girls also had a strong showing taking second as a team with four runners inside the top 15, a Hatie Lukert led the way taking fourth with a time of 20:08. Skylar McAfee also finished right behind Lukert in fifth, while Jadyn Dorn took eighth and Kenzie Meyer 10th.

For Jeff West the Tigers were led by Macy Tucker who took third with a time of 20:05, while Sarah Sayles finished 15th.

Holton also had two girls inside the top 15, as Hannah Ent took seventh and Alayna Clayton 14th.

Perry Lecomtpton rounded out top finishers on the girls side, as the Kaws had Blaise Ball take eighth and Jolie Hirsch 12th.

As to the boys Hiawatha wrapped up the league title with six guys inside of the top 15, led by Justin Hodge who won his second individual league title with a blazing time of 15:43.17 which was the top spot by over a minute.

The Redhawks also had Liam Jones take fifth, Andrew Lierz seventh, Parker Winters eighth, Christian Shaffer ninth and Carson Gilbert 14th.

Perry Lecompton also had a strong showing on the boys side taking second as a team with five runners inside the top 15, led by Josh Mitts who finished sixth with a time of 17:14. The Kaws also had Reece Sollars take 10th, James Bartlet 11th, Calvin McPherson 13th and Jessye Schumann 15th.

The Sabetha boys finished just behind Perry in the standings to take third, led by Henry Glynn and Kaden Dillon who finished back-to-back taking third and fourth.

Spencer Strahm also took 12th for the Bluejays, while Royal Valley was led by Nue Tinajero who took second to round out top 15 finishers.
