Centralia Girls and Boys Win Big Over Onaga

The high school basketball season continued Tuesday night with just a couple of games left before the holiday break and in Centralia the Panther girls and boys teams dominated Onaga winning by a combined 93 points.

GIRLS

The girls game was all Centralia from the start as the Panthers forced eight first quarter turnover to get a big lead and never look back in a 67-12 win.

Senior Maddy Lueger got the Panthers off to a good start with eight first quarter points as Centralia jumped out to a 17-2 lead after one.

The Panthers extended their lead to 42-4 at halftime to put the game out of reach with Lueger notching eight more points in the second while seniors Maegan Koch and Tamra Jones each had six points in the quarter as well.

Centralia (3-1) forced 21 total turnovers in the contest with Lueger leading the way with a season-high 18 points with 16 of those points coming in the first half.

Next up for the Panthers is a road game at Washington County Friday, while Onaga (0-6) will host Hanover to finish up the week.

Centralia: Maddy Lueger – 18, Kate Elliot – 12, Maegan Koch – 10, Tamra Jones – 9, Abbie Flentie – 6, Avery Mars – 5, Morgan Kramer – 4, Jade Rumbo – 3.

Onaga: Kady Figge – 7, Morghan Owens – 3, Katelyn VanDonge – 2.

BOYS

Just like the girls game the Centralia boys jumped out to a big lead outscoring Onaga in the first quarter 21-0 before going on to win big 51-13.

The Panthers forced six turnovers in the first quarter, while senior Colby Arnold notched eight points in frame getting out in transition for easy buckets.

Centralia played several younger guys in the second quarter finishing with just six points, but after the strong first quarter the Panthers still led 27-4 at the half.

The Panthers put the game out of reach with a 21-point third quarter ballooning the lead to 48-10, as junior Kamble Haverkamp notched eight points in the quarter while senior Daegan Steinlage delivered the knockout blow with a two-hand jam.

Centralia (2-2) forced 18 turnovers in the contest with Haverkamp and Steinlage leading the way with 12 points each.

Next up for the Panthers is a road game at state-ranked Washington County Friday, while the Buffaloes (1-5) host Hanover.
