Royal Valley Girls, Sabetha Boys Start Off 2019 With Wins

The first game back from the Christmas break featured an excellent Big 7 League matchup as the Royal Valley girls and Sabetha boys both took the wins last season in a split. It all came down to the last minute during the girls game, where the boys game was decided with about 3 minutes to go.

            In the girls game it would come down to the final minute to decide a winner, as the Lady Panthers would get the 48-43 win  off a huge night from Sophmore Mahpiya Irving who had 18 points. Mary Broxterman also chipped in 13 points as well. Sophmore Melinna Schumann had a big night for the Lady Jays as she had 17 points while Hillary Krebs also netted 11 points as well for Sabetha.

            In the night finale the Sabetha Boys would take the win 46-34. Senior Jesse Burger lead all scoring as he had 15 points. Gabe Garber and Joe Gruber both chipped in 9 points a piece, and Braeden Cox had 8 points on the night. Nachs Whawassuck had 11 points on the night for the Panthers while Pak Hale had 5 points and a couple of other players had 4 points a piece.

            The Royal Valley girls go to 4-2 in League play and 4-2 Overall. The Royal Valley Boys fall to 2-4 in the League and 2-4 Overall on the season. Royal Valley will be at Perry-Lecompton next Tuesday night for a Big 7 matchup with the Kaws. The Sabetha Girls fall to 3-2 in the League and 5-2 Overall on the season, while the Sabetha Boys move to 5-0 in League play and 7-0 Overall. Sabetha travels to Seneca for an Big 7 league matchup with in-county rivals Nemaha Central.
