Twin Valley League Tournament Final Day Recap & All-Tournament Teams

The Twin Valley League tournament wrapped up Thursday night with another full day of action and once again there was excitement, big wins, close games and even upsets.

The TVL Tournament Championship was captured by the Frankfort Wildcats on the girls side in a thrilling 45-44 win over Hanover, while the Hanover boys took down Clifton-Clyde for the boys tournament championship 56-36.

Boys Championship: Hanover 66, Clifton-Clyde 36

Hanover jumped out to a 20-7 lead after the first quarter and outscored Clifton-Clyde 20-13 in the second quarter to jump out to a big lead and never look back. Thomas Atkins led Hanover with 18 points, while Carter Bruna added 13 points and Daiken Stallbaumer 12. Christian Seifert led the Eagles with 15 points while Aiden Rudolph added 11.

Girls Championship: Frankfort 45, Hanover 44

Despite trailing by as many as 10 points in the fourth quarter the Frankfort girls were able to come back late to take the TVL Championship on the girls side. Frankfort led by three points late while Hanover actually pulled within one point with 10 seconds to play, but Hanover wasn’t able to get a steal or foul as Frankfort dribble the remaining time off the clock. Frankfort was led in scoring by Kennan Brandt who finished with 17 points, while Hanover was led by Macy Doebele’s game-high 23 points.

Boys 3rd Place: Centralia 63, Blue Valley 54

The Centralia boys overcame a first quarter deficit and used a 19-10 third quarter to build a lead on Blue Valley and finish the TVL tournament in third. Colby Arnold led the Panthers with 16 points on three 3-pointers, while Daegan Steinlage added 15. Cole Montgomery led the Rams with 21 points while Lane Peter added 19.

Girls 3rd Place: Centralia 53, Clifton-Clyde 41

Behind a 21-11 fourth quarter the Centralia girls claimed third place over Clifton-Clyde. Maddy Lueger led Centralia with 14 points while Tamra Jones added 12 and Morgan Kramer 10. Jaysie Bowser led the Eagles with 17 points while Kalista Hubert added 13.

Boys 5th Place: Valley Heights 49, Axtell 42

Despite Axtell leading 12-11 after the first quarter the Valley Heights boys used a 12-6 second quarter to take a 23-18 lead into halftime before putting the game out of reach in the third forcing 10 turnovers. Cameron Beardsley and Bryson Kenworthy each finished with 11 points to lead Valley Heights, while Quinn Buessing led Axtell with 27 points on eight 3-pointers.

Girls 5th Place: Valley Heights 45, Axtell 27

Valley Heights jumped out to a 12-6 lead after the first quarter and held Axtell to single digits in all four quarters to come away with a fifth place finish. Emma Yungeberg led the Mustangs with 14 points, while Sam Vermetten added 13. Hana Schmitz led Axtell with 15 points.

Boys 7th Place: Washington County 48, Frankfort 45

Behind a 14-7 third quarter the Washington County boys were able to get a lead over Frankfort and hold on to take seventh. Tyler Nelson led the Tigers with 15 points, while Wyatt Benz added 11. Frankfort was led in scoring by Gavin Cornelison who finished with 11 points.

Girls 7th Place: Blue Valley 53, Doniphan West 45

After trailing 10-9 after the first quarter the Blue Valley girls won the remaining three quarters to come away with an eight points victory. Brooklyn Zoeller had a huge game for the Rams tallying 22 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the free throw line, while MaKinley Smith led Doniphan West with 19 points on 11-of-11 shooting from the stripe.
