For the second consecutive season the Hanover Wildcat girls and boys basketball teams are headed back to the state tournament after each claimed the Class 1A Clay Center Sub-State Championship on Saturday.

The girls got by St. John/Tipton 55-34 on Saturday knocking down four 3-pointers, while the boys beat Burlingame 60-49 and hit six treys of their own while finishing with three guys in double figures.

The Lady Cats were led by Cadlee Stallbaumer who finished with 13 points on three 3-pointers, while Macy Doebele and Tianna Lohse each added 12.

The Hanover boys had Carter Bruna knock down four 3-pointers to finish with 18 points, while Thomas Atkins and Daiken Stallbaumer had 12 points each.

It’s a return trip for the Hanover girls who are looking to repeat for the third straight year as 1A State Champions, and are making their seventh trip to state in school history including their fourth straight.

The Lady Cats (22-3) drew the sixth seed in this year’s tournament and will open up play Wednesday at 4:45 pm against 3-seed Olpe (23-0).

As to the boys it marks the fifth consecutive trip to state and their 16th overall, and the Hanover boys will look to capture their second state championship in the past three seasons after winning it all in 2017.

The Cats (24-1) are the 3-seed and will take on 6-seed St. John-Hudson (21-4) Thursday at 4:45 pm from the United Wireless Arena in Dodge City.
