Behind clutch hitting and the power of the long ball the Holton softball team picked up a sweep of Sabetha Monday night at home by scores of 8-2 and 14-2.

In game one it was solid pitching from Gracie Gallagher and two big innings that allowed the Lady Cats to come away with an 8-2 victory.

Holton platted two runs in the first inning on three hits including an RBI-single from Kinleigh Rhodd while a Sabetha error allowed the other two runs to score.

Sabetha played one of their best games of the season and trailed just 3-1 going into the bottom of the fourth after a home run by Maggie Hughes, but the Lady Cats took complete control with another three-run inning.

Holton collected five straight hits in that inning, with the big blow coming on Bailey Flewelling 3-run home run which broke the game open.

The Lady Cats plated two more runs in the sixth on back-to-back home runs from Lauryn Moore and Gallagher, while Sabetha got their only other run on a solo shot from Trista Argabright in the seventh.

Ally Beard led Holton offensively with three hits and a run scored, while Flewelling, Rhodd, Moore and Addy Degenhardt each recorded multi-hit games as well.

On the mound Gallagher got the win allowing just two runs on six hits while striking out seven not allowing a single walk in the contest.

In game two Holton got up early and never looked back scoring runs in the first four innings including an 8-run third before going on to win 14-2.

Bailey Flewelling added two more hits and four RBI’s in the contest, while Ally Beard added three RBI’s and two hits as well.

Olivia Summers got the win on the mound in her first appearance of the year, as she tossed four innings allowing just three hits and one run while walking only one.

Holton with the sweep improves to 11-2 on the year and will next be at Perry Lecompton Thursday, while Sabetha drops to 4-6 and will host Royal Valley on Thursday.
