Hiawatha Girls, Sabetha Boys Lead Area Performances at Hiawatha Cross Country Invitational

Hiawatha Invitational – Results

The high school cross country season continued Thursday afternoon with area teams competing at the Hiawatha Invitational and the best area finishes came from the Hiawatha girls and Sabetha boys.

The Redhawk girls finished second as a team and had three runners place inside of the top 15 led by Kate Madsen who finished second just behind a runner from Silver Lake while Darcy Lierz finished ninth and Emma Boswell 14th.

Doniphan West added two more girls inside of the top 10 with Elle Williams finishing fifth while Claire Cole took seventh.

Sabetha and Holton each finished in the top five of the team standings and each had one runner inside of the top 15 as the Bluejays had Hattie Lukert take fourth while the Wildcat’s Alayna Clayton finished 12th.

The remaining spots in the top 15 were rounded out by Atchison and ACCHS as the Lady Red were led by a third-place finish from Adalynn Collins while the Tigers had Victoria Caplinger take 10th.

On the boy’s side Sabetha led the way taking first with four guys inside of the top 15 led by Braden Menold who took sixth while Charlie Bestwick finished eighth, Memphis Cochran 10th, Cameron Harrell 12th and Tyrese Bishop 15th.

The best finish of any area runner came from Hiawatha’s Justin Hodge who won the boy’s meet with a time of 18:21.47.

The final spots in the top 15 were rounded out by Holton and Nemaha Central as the Wildcats had Rees Robinson take 11th and Ben Bontrager 13th while the Thunder had Trenton Schmelzle finish 14th.
