Centralia Falls to Rock Creek in Pair on the Hardwood

It was the Panthers first time out of Twin Valley League play this season and the hosted the Rock Creek Mustangs who made the move up to 4A this season. The matchup was full of action packed moments and 16 three-pointers by both teams combined.

After the end of the first quarter it was tied at 19-19, and then Rock Creek would take a five-point advantage into the half, leading 39-34. Then it was the third quarter that doomed the Lady Panthers as Rock Creek blasted out to a 22-7 third quarter taking control of the game and not allowing Centralia truly back into the game despite a 16-9 fourth quarter for the Lady Panthers.

In the loss three players’ tallied double figures for Centralia with sophomore, Liz Hasenkamp leading the way with 20 points, hitting five three-pointers in the game with four coming in the first half. Hasenkamp with her performance earned Community National Bank of Seneca and Sabetha “Player to Bank On” award. Junior, Kaitlyn Koch added 15 points and sophomore, Amaris Jones off the bench chipped in 11 points of her own.

Rock Creek finished with three players in double figures also, with Alexis Wilson scoring 20 and Sarah Altenhofen adding 19 points.

Centralia fell to .500 with the loss moving their record to 2-2 with two more games for the holiday break, with next game against Wamego at home on Tuesday.

Boys

In the three games over the last three years between the Mustangs and Panthers it was all single digit contests and this one proved to be the same with the Mustangs coming out on top, 60-53.

Centralia was down by 10 at the half 35-25, but battled back in the second half to get within four points multiple times but couldn’t ultimately grasp full control of the game to gain a lead late in the contest.

Panthers, in the loss were led by juniors, Brett Burdiek and Devin Rempe who both tallied 15 points on the night to be named co-Community National Bank of Seneca and Sabetha “Players to Bank.” Junior, Sam Steinlage added nine points in the contest, as well.

Rock Creek had seven players scored with Ryan Schneider leading the way with 19 points, hitting four three’s, as his teammate Tyler Dillon added 12 points in the game.

With the loss, Centralia boys like their counterpart fell to .500 on the season with a 2-2 record and have two game remaining before the holiday break, with Wamego coming to town next.
