Holton had a chance to score first, but missed a 20-yard field goal following a 14-play drive on their second possession of the night.  The other three Wildcats drives in the first half all failed to pick up a first down and included two fumbles.  Despite the mistakes on homecoming night, the game was still scorelesss when Sabetha got the ball a third time with 7:53 remaining in the second quarter.  That's when senior star Gabe Garber took over and put on one helluva show as the Jays scored on five straight possesions in route to a huge 35-13 road win.

Holton finished with 240 total yards, all rushing, while Garber accounted for 361 yards of offense himself.  Garber was nearly perfect in the passing game hitting 20-22 for 268 yards and four touchdowns while adding 93 yards rushing.  He also registered 19 total tackles, including 8 solo stops to lead the Sabetha defense.

The Jays scored twice in the final four minutes of the half to take a 13-0 lead at the break as they used several short pass routes early in the game to set up some long completions.  The first was a 28-yard pass from Garber to Braden Argabright to cap a short 39-yard drive after a Wildcat fumble.  When Sabetha got the ball back at their own 13 with 1:25 left in the half, Garber delivered a couple quick passes then a long run to set up his five-yard touchdown carry just 14 seconds before the break.  Garber then delivered a 53-yard TD strike to Argabright to open the third stanza and found Drew Schmelzle on a 44-yard pass to cap their next drive and go up 28-0 with 4:58 remaining in the third period.  That drive went just 50 yards after Holton botched a punt.  Garber found Schmelzle again in the fourth quarter on an eight-yard touchdown pass to finish the night.

Holton scored on the last play of the third quarter as Canon Karn had a bruising 10-yard TD run and Kale Purcell ran in the Cats second score from 10 yards out with just 31 seconds left in the game.  Konnor Tannahill led the Wildcat ground game with 85 yards on 21 carries while Taygen Fletcher had 61 yards on just 8 totes and Karn finished with 8 carries for 55 yards.  Holton had won four straight, but falls to 4-2 on the season and 2-1 in District play with games left at Marysville (6-0) and home against Wamego (5-1).

Sabetha had six different players catch a pass from Garber, who almost had two more touchdowns on his only two incompletions of the evening which were tough but catchable balls in the endzone. Argrabright led the way with 121 yards on seven catches while Schmelzle also hauled in two scores on his four grabs for 77 yards.  Andrew Frazee ran for 38 yards on seven carries, mostly in the second half milking the lead and clock as Sabetha had zero turnovers and improved to 5-1 with their fourth straight win against the Wildcats.

Sabetha takes a 2-1 District record to Wamego next week looking to secure a home game when the playoffs start in week nine.  The Jays will also host Royal Valley to end the regular season in hopes of repeating their undefeated Big 7 League football championship.  Jeff West has already earned a share of their first ever Big 7 football title by virtue of their 8-3 win against Perry Lecompton on Friday night, which completed a 4-0 league mark for this season.

While Garber was the Citizens State Bank and Trust Company "Player to Bank On," Carson Ukele (the only senior returning starter of the Bluejays offensive line) earned Giant Communications "Lineman of the Game" honors.  Garber did not get sacked, but also did a good job of avoiding any rush attempts and improvising while finding ways to create a positive play.
