Peru State Tournament Day One Results

Day one of the Peru State College Basketball tournament finds the Lourdes Central Catholic girls and Falls City girls advancing to the tournament championship game Tuesday night.  The boys title game will pit Johnson-Brock against Falls City. 

On Monday Lourdes Central Catholic defeated Johnson-Brock in overtime in the first girls game 35-34.  Kim Osovski led the Knights with 16 points, 13 in the second half and overtime.  Madeline DuBois added 9.  Johnson-Brock was led by Sarah Wenzl with 10 points and Sydney Lavigne wtih 9.

Falls City improved to 4-3 on the season with a 30-22 win over Auburn.  Tressa Chandler scored 8 of her 14 points in the fourth quarter for Falls City.  Baylee Vrtiska added 10.  Auburn was led by Maggie Rieschick who scored 8.

In the boys semi finals Johnson-Brock beat Lourdes Central Catholic 37-24.  Dontavious Sturgeon-Rieger, Nick Stahl and Dustin Niedermeyer scored 10 each for the Eagles.  Aaron Miller had 8 and Alex Hogeland chipped in 7 for the Knights.

The Falls City Tigers remain undefeated with a 62-45 win over Auburn.  It was a struggle for three quarters during which the lead changed hands 10 times.  Falls City outscored the Bulldogs 20-5 in the fourth period to secure their 7th win of the season.  Jordy Stoller scored 14 for Falls City including 10 in the final period.  Cord Huettner added 12 and Mitchell Harling had 10.  Auburn was led by Caleb Nelson with 13 and Patrick Frary with 10.

Final round action will be today beginning at 3:30 at the Al Wheeler Activity Center when the Auburn girls play Johnson-Brock for third place followed by the boys third place game between Auburn and Nebraska City Lourdes Central at 5 p-m.  The girls title game will be at 6:30 with Falls City taking on Lourdes Central Catholic.  The nightcap is the boys title game between Falls City and Johnson-Brock.
