Cyclones Sweep Troy - Stay Unbeaten in DVL
By Justin Fluke

In their final game as Delaware Valley League rivals, the Riverside Cyclones sweep the visiting Troy Trojans to improve to 3-0 in league play heading into the Christmas break.

The Riverside girls won 53-38 while the Cyclone boys prevailed 65-62.

GIRLS
Troy led 3-0 before Riverside scored 9 straight points to grab early momentum and the teams were tied at 11 apiece after one quarter.  The second quarter decided the game as the Lady Cyclones held Troy without a field goal and went on a 16-1 run to lead by 15 points and halftime.  The Trojans never got the game back to single digits and finished with 19 turnovers as they fall to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the DVL.  Kelli Marriott led Troy with 9 points while Carmen and Claire Turpin each scored 8.  The only girl to score in double figures was Ashleigh Bristol who pumped in 20 for the Cyclones and earned "Player To Bank On" honors from Citizens State Bank and Trust Company of Hiawatha.  Bristol hit four treys and also grabbed 7 steals as Riverside won their sixth straight contests and second against rival Troy this season.  Allie Simonin added 9 and Kim Euler scored 8 all in the second half as the Riverside girls improved to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the DVL.

BOYS
Troy had an early 6-0 lead before Riverside ran off 7 consecutive points to take a 9-7 advantage and the Cyclones led 12-10 after one period.  After a back and forth second stanza, the Cyclones remained on top 30-28.  Riverside extended the lead to as many as 11 points in the second half, but Troy did not go away.  Reese Simpson (playing in his second game back from injury) scored 6 fourth quarter points including a stick back to pull Troy within 61-60 with 2 minutes to play.  The Cyclones had made only 3 of 11 free throws in the fourth quarter, but never gave up the lead as they made their final four shots at the charity stripe to hold on for the win.  Zach Halter hit two free throws with 9.4 seconds to play (63-60), then after a Jake Ross basket for Troy, Alex Davidson sank two free throws with 1.8 seconds to play and Simpson missed a long three for Troy as time expired.  Troy made 9 of 12 foul-shots in the fourth quarter and finished 17 of 25 for the game as they outscored Riverside 19-15 in the final 8 minutes but fell just shy and drop to 3-3 on the season and 1-2 in the DVL.  Ross led the Trojans with 17 points while Collin Jasper added 10 and Nathan Gaarder 9.  Riverside avenged a 47-45 setback earlier this season against Troy and improved  to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the league with Halter and Davidson each scoring 17 points and hitting the icing free throws late to share "Player To Bank On" honors from the Citizens State Bank and Trust Company of Hiawatha.  Kolby Scott added 13 for the Cyclones who overcame 19 turnovers and also got 9 points from Kyle Studer and 8 from Andrae McGaughy, as the bench produced only one point all night.
