Kanzaland Sports 2012 Moment #1:
Perfection on Football Field for B&B Falcons and Holton Wildcats, Who Win State Titles

Dominant performances were the staples of two Kanzaland area football teams this year as the B&B Falcons and Holton Wildcats dominated their opponents on a regular basis on their way to a perfect season and a state title.

2012 8-Man DII State Champs B&B FalconsFor the B&B Falcons they finish off their perfect 13-0 season with a 28-6 win over Thunder Ridge the reigning state champs who beat the Falcons the previous year. Falcons used one of their best defensive performances to help propel them to victory as they allowed less than 200 yards to Thunder Ridge in the contest. Offensively B&B had been balanced all season and that continued in the championship game as senior, Dustin Deters and junior, Brandon Bergman both ran for scores, while junior quarterback, Dustin Rottinghaus ran for a score, also while tossing a TD pass to Tyler Deters.

B&B continued to showcase their dominance on the football field, as they capped on this season with the state, but over the last five season has amassed a record of 63-3 and made and appearance in five consecutive state title games, winning three of them. In Class 4A, the Holton Wildcats too dominated their opponents throughout the season on their way to a 14-0 perfect season and a 4A state title. Wildcats went perfect 5-0 in the playoffs with their biggest test coming against McPherson in regionals as the Wildcats needed a late 65-yard touchdown pass to win the game. Holton then went on to beat Mulvane in sub-state and then dispatch Eudora in the championship 21-0, for their fourth shutout of the year. 2012 4A State Champs Holton Wildcats

Holton controlled games all season with their rushing attack that averaged 390 yards rushing per game and averaging 44.4 points per game to their opponents 9.9 points per game. (Click here for story on Holton’s State Championship)

The Centralia Panthers also made the state championship game as they went through the season unbeaten in Class 2A and made the state title game for the second straight year looking to defend their state title. The Panthers took on a tough Meade squad and in the end fell 28-25 in the contest, having the lead late but Meade mounted the comeback and spot Centralia late in the game. Centralia finished the season 12-1 and state runner ups in Class 2A. (Click here for story on Centralia’s Runner up finish at State)

Eleven other Kanzaland area teams earned spots in the playoffs with only four of them continued on past the first round of action. Hanover, McLouth, Sabetha and Hiawatha all made it out the first round of action in their respective classification, but only one of those four continued on after that as Hanover made sub-state in 8-Man Division before falling to B&B for the second time in the season. Onaga, Nemaha Valley, Pleasant Ridge, Jefferson County North, Jackson Heights, Jeff West and Atchison were the other area teams that made the playoffs.

While some teams loss key players, 2013 surely will be another great season of high school football in the Kanzaland area as many teams will be primed to have great seasons yet again and some others bounce back from a down year.
