Year in and year out we are blessed in Northeast Kansas with some of the best basketball around the state in some the best leagues around the state.

The 2019-20 season was no different with big upsets, close games and buzzer beaters throughout ending with seven area teams punching their tickets to their respective state tournaments.

With the ending of high school sports for the year and nothing taking place nationally we have decided to count down our top 10 high school basketball games from the 2019-20 season.

Yesterday we started our countdown with games 7-10 and today we continue our countdown by looking at our No. 6 game of the year while the top five games will be released next week.

No. 6: Feb. 18 Perry Lecompton Boys vs. Sabetha

In one of the more thrilling games of the year Perry Lecompton overcame a 22-12 first quarter deficit and got a game-winning 3-pointer from Billy Welch at the buzzer.

After the big first quarter the Kaws played much better in the second but Sabetha still was able to hold on to a 39-34 lead at the half.

The Bluejays continued to hold to a lead going into the fourth quarter leading 50-46 going into the final frame, but in the fourth the Kaws outscored Sabetha 19-12 to earn the comeback win on the buzzer beater from Welch.

Welch’s game-winner was his only 3-pointer of the night as he finished with eight points.

Blake Farmer led the Kaws with 21 points while Brad Robb added 14. Gabe Garber led Sabetha with 18 points while Kaleb Grimm added 15.
