After going through another season in what was yet again a loaded Big 7 League, the Perry Lecompton used their experience and put to work Saturday in claiming the Class 3A Sub-State Championship at Wellsville.
The Kaws got to the title match by making quick work of Bishop Ward in the first round in two sets 25-18 and 25-12 before having to work to take down Pleasant Ridge in the semifinals in three sets 25-14, 23-25, 25-13.
Perry then in the finals faced off against Osawatomie who beat Jeff West in the first round and Oskaloosa in the semifinals.
It was a battle, but the Kaws pulled out a three-set win by scores of 23-25, 25-23, 25-15.
The Kaws (22-16) now get set to host Sabetha in the quarterfinals of the 3A State Tournament on Tuesday at 6 p.m. with live coverage on 103.9 KNZA.
