The Maur Hill-Mount Academy boys’ basketball team opened postseason play Monday hosting Republic County in round one of the Class 2A Valley Heights sub-state and from start to finish the Ravens were dominant in a 49-27 victory.
The Ravens raced out to a quick 13-2 lead after the first quarter forcing nine Buffalo turnovers along with senior Kolbran Korbelik scoring nine points while senior Shane Sachse added four.
MH-MA ballooned their lead to 16 points going into halftime as Sachse added seven more in the period giving the Ravens a 28-12 lead at the break.
Korbelik would add four more in the third while senior Kenny Howard added four of his own as the Ravens built a 21-point lead going into the fourth quarter to cruise to the victory.
MH-MA forced 21 turnovers in the win with Korbelik leading the way with 19 points while Sachse added 11.
The win also was a milestone for Raven Head Coach Brad Kunecke who picked up the 400th win over his long career which spans stints in Iowa and for the MH-MA girl's program.
Next up for the Ravens is the semifinals of sub-state on Thursday as MH-MA will get Riverside with tip off scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Blue Rapids.
