Spots in the sub-state finals were on the line Friday night at Centralia in Class 1A-DI and after two solid games it will be Frankfort and Clifton-Clyde meeting for the boy’s spot in the state tournament.

Semifinal #1: Frankfort 56, Troy 42

In a back-and-forth game throughout the Frankfort Wildcats used clutch buckets down the stretch and clutch free throw shooting to pull away for a 56-42 victory.

Both teams traded leads throughout the first half with Troy taking a 14-13 after one behind five points from senior Keaton Neumann.

Frankfort responded with a strong second quarter and had five different guys score to take a 24-21 lead into the break.

The Cats held that lead going into the fourth quarter and in the fourth junior Sam Gros scored nine points while senior Gavin Cornelison made four consecutive free throws to build a lead and extend it out to the 14-point total at the buzzer.

Cornelison led the Cats (15-5) with 20 points on the night in the win while Gros added 13 and junior Ethan Armstrong 10.

Troy (9-12) in the loss had Neumann score 13 in what was his final game as a Trojan as the lone senior on the roster.

Semifinal #2: Clifton-Clyde 61, Centralia 46

The second semifinal was simply all Clifton-Clyde from the start as the Eagles led from start to finish in a 61-46 victory.

The Eagles raced out to a 7-0 start and behind six points each from Jeff Skocny, Aiden Rudolph and Wyatt Lange Clyde led 22-10 after one.

Centralia tried to battle back and got five points from junior Colten Weyer to bring the deficit back down to single digits at halftime 32-24.

The third quarter though is where the Clyde took control as the Eagles outscored the Panthers 21-10 to lead by 19 going into the fourth quarter and cruising the rest of the way.

Clyde had four players in double figures in the win led by Lange who had 16 points and 12 rebounds while Rudolph added 12, Skocny 11 and Jarik Weiche 11.

Centralia ends their season with a 10-10 record and were led in the loss by junior Raef Osterhaus with 12.

This sets up Clifton-Clyde and Frankfort for the sub-state championship Saturday evening at 5 p.m. from Centralia and we will have live coverage on 92.1 KMZA.
