KWCA Releases New State Wrestling Rankings -- Jan. 15th

The wrestling season continues and top performances on the mat continue to be on display for area wrestlers this season with many remaining in the latest set of rankings by the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association and some new wrestlers jumping into the rankings.

In Class 4A seven area wrestlers find themselves ranked in the top six of their weight class with two of the seven wrestlers new to the rankings. Holton of the area teams continues to have the most wrestlers ranked with three wrestlers ranked two of which have been ranked all season and the other a majority of the year. In the 120lb weight class senior, Hunter Price ranks fifth in the latest rankings, while senior, Lane Lassiter ranks fourth in the 145lb weight class. Junior, Cooper Zeller is the highest ranked Wildcat as he is ranked second in the 285lb weight class as he as been in the last couple of rankings.

Jeff West Tigers for the first time have multiple wrestlers ranked this season. Tigers have been lead on the mate this season behind the performance of junior, Justin Scott who has remained number in his weight class of 220lbs this season all year. Freshman, Tucker Schreiner has joined Scott in the rankings as he his tied for sixth in the 106lb weight class.

Royal Valley senior, Tanner Ogden remains ranked as he as all season checking in at fourth in the 152lb weight class, while Atchison Redman sophomore, Tyler Harris jumped into the rankings this week for the first time at number six in the 160lb weight class.

Class 3A, features at least one area wrestler in 11 of the 14 weight classes with 12 wrestlers from the area ranked. The ACCHS Tigers are the only team to be ranked this week in the top 10 teams as they remain in the top 10, tied at tenth with Fredonia. The Tigers have three individual wrestlers that continue to be ranked as sophomore's, Logan Bowen (120lb) and Willy Dieckmann (126lb) remain ranked in their weight classes both checking in at fourth. Tiger senior, Taylor Schuetz remains ranked also checking in at number five in the 160lb weight class.

Marysville, Sabetha and Pleasant Ridge all have two ranked wrestlers has they have most of the season. For the Bulldogs the performances on the mat by James Landoll (138lb) and Josh Goepfert (113lb) have had them ranked all season. Landoll currently ranks fourth in his weight class while Goepfert checks in at second in his weight class. For the Bluejays they have been lead on the mat by seniors, Levi Huneke (182lb) and Tyler Edelman (195lb) as both wrestlers have been ranked all season for Sabetha. Both Huneke and Edelman rank fourth in the latest set of rankings. For Pleasant Ridge, seniors, Clayton Gum and Jared Johnson both are in the rankings. For Johnson he remains number one in the 170lb weight class as he has all season while Clayton Gum checks in at number six in the the 106lb weight class.

Centralia junior, Andrew Beck (132lb) and Doniphan West sophomore, Tristan Speer (195lb) both have been staples in the rankings all year and remain in those rankings with Beck coming in at fifth and Speer at third in the latest set of KWCA rankings. Onaga Buffalo senior, Mychal Kolterman after jumping into the rankings last time remains ranked in the heavyweight division at the 285lb weight class, as he checks in at fifth.
