TVL Tournament Recap: Quarterfinals

The TVL Tournament wrapped up the quarterfinals on Tuesday night with the Semi-Final matchups now set for Thursday and Friday. 

(G) Doniphan West 54, Clifton Clyde 37  

The 4-seed Doniphan West girls got down 7-2 early against 5-seed Clifton Clyde but closed out the first quarter on a 15-0 run to take a 10-point lead into the second quarter. They built a 13-point halftime lead and was able to cruise the rest of the way. Jaiden Taylor led the Mustangs with 17 points and five rebounds. Melaina Whetstine added 12 and Claire Cole chipped in with 10. The Eagles were led by Lilly Steinbrock with 11 points and five rebounds. Mustangs improve to 8-2 while the Eagles drop to 9-2.

(B) Troy 55 vs. Axtell 30

The Trojans jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. They led 17-8 after the first quarter and built the lead to 29-14 at halftime. Axtell had 19 first half turnovers and finished with 30 in the game as the Troy defense provided pressure all game. Jerrit Norris led the way for Troy with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Cam Anderson and Boden Benitz each added nine. Axtell was led by Isaac Detweiler who finished with 11 points and eight rebounds. Troy advances to the Seme-Finals and improves to 8-2 while the Eagles fall to 4-5 and can play for 5th place this weekend.

(G) Valley Heights 68 vs. Troy 18

This one was not close from the jump as the Mustangs led 20-6 after the first quarter and built a 38-11 halftime lead before getting the game to a running clock in the fourth quarter. Emma Yungeberg led Valley Heights with 14 points and 11 rebounds in limited action. Cat Toerber and Maddy Vermetten each added nine. Valley Heights outrebounded Troy 41-18 and forced the Trojans into 30 turnovers in the game. Troy was led by Abby Parks and Claire Winder each with four points. Valley Heights remains unbeaten at 10-0 while Troy drops to 4-6.

(B) Centralia 54 vs. Wetmore 49  

Wetmore jumped out to an early lead and led the game by nine at the end of the first quarter. The Panthers bounced back with a solid second quarter and trailed by just three at halftime 27-24. Slowly the Panthers grinded things out with their size and skill inside and outscored the Cardinals 30-22 in the second half to advance to the Semi-Finals. Presly Bowers led the Panthers with 20 points and 12 rebounds while Colton Weyer added 11 points. Braden Henry led Wetmore with 21 points and Eric Bloom added 11 points. Wetmore falls to 6-5 while the Panthers improve to 6-2.

(G) Hanover defeats Frankfort 52-26

(B) Frankfort defeats Clifton Clyde 54-43

(G) Centralia defeats Axtell 56-26

(B) Hanover defeats Blue Valley 61-36

Boys Semi-Final games will be Thursday night, girls Semi-Finals on Friday and then both Championship games will be played Saturday night.
