Coach Jon Thomas Honored for 300 Wins
By Justin Fluke

Prior to the Nemaha Valley boys tip-off in their Raider Classic Championship on Saturday in Seneca, Coach Jon Thomas was honored for eclipsing the 300 win mark in his coaching career and also presented a plaque from NV Athletic Director, Warren Seitz.  Thomas earned his 300th win on December 14th as NV beat Perry Lecompton.

Coach Thomas, who was unaware of the presentation, started his tenure as Raider boys coach in 1996 after the departure of Steve Darting and promptly guided the Raiders to a Big 7 League title in his first season.  Despite being one of the smallest schools in the Big 7, Thomas has guided his team to 8 league titles and 9 state tournament appearances in 17 years.  Under the leadership of Thomas, the Raiders have placed in the top 4 of the state 6 of 9 times.

NV was 23-3 a year ago, won the Big 7, and finished 2nd at the Class 3A State Tournament in Hutchinson.  They lost to Scott City, who is ranked #1 in the KBCA rankings this season, and Nemaha Valley is right behind at #2.

The Nemaha Valley boys are now 12-0 this season following their three-peat at the Raider Classic this past week.  The Raiders beat Falls City 56-48, which was only their third game decided by single digits this year.

Congratulations Coach Jon Thomas and Nemaha Valley for outstanding success on the hardwood!
