Holton Girls 5-Peat at Basehor Tournament
By Justin Fluke

Make it five years in a row that the Holton girls have won the Basehor-Linwood Bobcat Classic.  Under Coach Jon Holliday, the Lady Cats posted an impressive first-round win 45-9 against Platte County, then beat the tourney host Basehor Linwood 51-24 in the semifinals.  The championship game was a rematch from early December against rival Hayden and despite a sluggish fourth quarter, Holton prevailed 41-37, which was 11th straight win this season following an opening night loss to Class 4A #1 Wamego 38-32.  The Holton girls, now 11-1, are ranked #2 in the state and have a two-game lead in their quest for an 8th straight Big 7 League title.  They have won 105 consecutive games in the league.

Wildcat junior, Kyrstie Miller was named the Basehor Linwood Tournament MVP.  In the trio of games, Miller scored 30 points and 19 rebounds as well as 18 steals plus 4 assists and blocks.   Joining Miller on the All-Tourney team at Basehor were seniors Connor Strader and Brylee New.  In the balanced Wildcat attack, Strader registered 19 points including four treys and also had 6 steals.  New had 19 points plus 7 assists and 8 steals.

The Holton boys went 2-1 and took third place at the Tonganoxie Tournament this past week.  They beat Atchison 64-50 in the first round before falling to Class 5A Ranked, Lansing, 51-40 in the semifinals.  Holton bounced back from their 4th loss of the season to beat host Tonganoxie 71-56 in the third place game Saturday, hitting 9 treys in the contest.  The Wildcat boys are now 8-4 on the season and 6-1 in the Big 7 League behind Nemaha Valley.

The senior duo of Trent Tanking and Tyler Burdiek were named to the All Tournament Team at Tonganoxie.  Burdiek led the team with 46 total points in the three games while Tanking, Cameron Karn and Garrett Beecher all had 30 plus as well.
