2022 State Track and Field Meet Recap

The 2022 State Track and Field Championships wrapped up the high school sport seasons for 2021-2022 this past weekend in Wichita. 

The lone area 4A team competing was Holton and they posted a couple of fourth place finishes. Darcee Ashcroft in the discus and Piper Robinson in the pole vault. 

We had one State Champion with our area 3A teams. Nemaha Central's Connor Deters was the State Champion in the shot put with a throw of 56-07.75. His brother Nathan won the title last season as the brothers go back-to-back in the 3A shot put. 

Nemaha Central tallied a couple of bronze medals as well as Dylan Lortscher set a new school record in the high jump to take home the third place finish. 

The Thunder also got a bronze medal with their girls 4x400 meter relay team and Cami Dalinghaus in the shot put. 

Perry Lecompton's Taylor Damme also set a school record in the javelin with a mark of 132-05 which earned a bronze medal. 

Fourth place finishes from our area athletes included Nemaha Central's Hailey Nordhus in the 400 meter dash, and Royal Valley's Samantha Klotz in both the 200 meter dash and the long jump. 

Quite a few State Champions with our 2A and 1A athletes in Wichita. 

Emma Yungeberg of Valley Heights capped off her incredible career with three more gold medals. She swept the 2A shot put, javelin and discus events giving her now six career gold medals. Her throw in the shot put (43-07.50) broke the 2A Meet record.

Keegan Lott of ACCHS ended his track and field career on a high note as he was the 2A State Champion in the shot put. His top throw of 50-11.25 that won him the gold medal was nearly two feet farther than second place.

Jefferson County North's Adie Manville won her second straight 2A State Title in the high jump. 

Elle Williams of Doniphan West led the charge for our 1A athletes as she took home the gold medals in both the 800 and 1600 meter runs along with a bronze medal in the 3200 meter run. Elle goes back-to-back in the 800 and she improved from ninth place last year in the 1600 to first place this season. 

Centralia's Reagan Becker was the 1A State Champion in the high jump as she cleared 5-04.00. She earned the bronze last season and made the jump to the gold medal this season. 

Plenty of silver medals brought home from our area 1A and 2A athletes as well. 

Kanyon Olberding of Jackson Heights won the 2A silver medals in both the long jump and triple jump. 

Isaac Kane of Jefferson County North got the silver medal in the high jump and he also earned a bronze medal in the 400 meter dash. 

Class 1A, Grady Buessing of Axtell with a pair of silver medals in both the 800 and 1600 meter runs while the Frankfort boys 4x100 meter relay team took home the second place finish. 

Also the Washington County girls 4x400 meter relay team took home a silver medal.
