Girls

It was a non-league matchup on Tuesday night but next year it will become a league matchup as Doniphan West joins the Twin Valley League and will take on Frankfort with more regularity. As Frankfort made the statement to Doniphan West to be prepared when you join the TVL for tough competition, as the Wildcats topped the Mustangs 37-29. Up first on the night were the ladies and it was a sluggish start to the contest as it was just 5-4 at the end of the first quarter, in favor of Frankfort on the road.

Wildcats pushed out to a six point lead going into the half behind a 13-8 second quarter, but Doniphan West closed to within two going into the fourth period. In the fourth the Wildcats out scored the Mustangs 15-9 with all 15 Frankfort points coming at the hands of seniors, Josie Hale and Jessa Jones. Hale finished the night with a season high 18 points and was 6-8 from the free throw line to lead the Wildcats and earn the Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" award for the girls game. Jones added double figures with 14 to go along with Hale 18 on the evening.

For the Mustangs they were minus two key players in senior, Clarissa Billups and junior, Abbi Ellis so it was senior, Kassidy Blevins stepping up on the night finishing with a team-high 11 points and going 4-6 from the free throw line.

With the win Frankfort improves to 9-3 on the season, while Doniphan West falls to 9-4 on the year. Up next for the Wildcats they will head on the road and back to TVL play to take on the Axtell Eagles on Friday, while Doniphan West, too heads back to league play and on the road for their next contest as they will take on the Jefferson County North Chargers next Tuesday.

Boys

It was a tight ballgame in the first half, then Frankfort opened up a double figure lead that proved to be to much for Doniphan West in the second half of action, as the Mustangs tired to fight back. Wildcats used free throws and balanced scoring on the night to earn the 59-42 road win over the Mustangs.

After a 13-9 first quarter lead for Frankfort it was tied at the half 24-24, as Doniphan hit six treys in the first half and had a lead going into the half until a late foul that gave Frankfort free throws at the end of the first half and junior, Kyle Vaughn nailed a pair to tie the game up at the half.

In the second half, despite three more three's by Doniphan West, Frankfort pushed the score in their favor with a 18-7 third quarter and then outscored the Mustangs by six more in the fourth. Helping spark that run was the balanced scoring of Frankfort and a 21-33 night from the free throw line. Senior, Calahan Brown lead the Wildcats on the night with 17 points, 13 of which came from the free throw line (13-17). Juniors, Brett Kenworthy and Lucas Adams joined their teammate in double figures with 12 and 11 points on the night.

For the Mustangs they used nine three's to stay in the game and balance from their players, also. Senior, Derek Gibson lead the way with 11 points on the night going 3-5 from the charity strip. Freshman, Cooper Leach added nine points, hitting three three-pointers.

With the win Frankfort improved to 7-6 on the season, while Doniphan West fell to 0-12 and is still in search of their first win of the year. Up next for the Wildcats they will head on the road and back to TVL play to take on the Axtell Eagles on Friday, while Doniphan West, too heads back to league play and on the road for their next contest as they will take on the Jefferson County North Chargers next Tuesday.
