JCN Girls Invite Day One Recap

After the first round of action in the Jefferson County North Girls Invitational its ACCHS, JCN, Valley Falls and Perry Lecompton moving on to the semifinals of the tournament come Friday.

#1 ACCHS 52-18 over #8 Oskaloosa

The one seed ACCHS Lady Tigers have only loss this season and came into the tournament as the number seed taking on a winless Oskaloosa Lady Bears squad who was hungry for a win. Well the Tigers wasted no time to make sure Oskaloosa wouldn't get the win against them. ACCHS pounced out to a 37-12 lead at the half and then had a 8-0 third quarter to put things out of reach even further fort Oskaloosa, has the Tigers won it 52-18.

Senior, Allison Wallisch paced the way for the Tigers with another double figure night posting 12 points, as she's scored double figures in all but one game this season. Juniors, Leah Scholz and Taylor Vanderloo both also tallied double figures with 10 points each on the night.

For Oskaloosa they struggled to score in the ballgame only having three players account for their 18 points with Taylor Willits and Maddy Miller each accounting for 8 points apiece on the night.

With the win ACCHS moves to 10-1 on the year and advances to the semifinals, as Oskaloosa falls to 0-11 with the loss.

#5 Valley Falls 46-44 over #4 Jeff West

This one proved to be the only highly contested matchup of the first round of the JCN Invitational as the Valley Falls Dragons outscored the Jeff West Tigers by five in the fourth quarter to capture the 46-44 win to advance to play ACCHS in the semifinals.

The Dragons took a 9-5 lead after the first period, then the Tigers of Jeff West responded with a 10-4 second quarter to take the lead and lead the game 26-23 going into the fourth and final period.

Senior captains, Molly Tillery and Ashley Miller lead the Dragons in the win with 13 and 11 points each on the night. For Jeff West, senior, Erika Essman lead they way with 10 points, while Victoria Johnson and Molly Hothan added eight points each.

With the win Valley Falls improved to 6-4 and moved onto the semifinals, as Jeff West fell to 5-6 on the season with the loss.

#2 Jefferson County North 94-17 over McLouth

The Chargers of Jefferson County North started their home tournament off with a bang posting 94 points on their way to a smooth sailing victory 94-17 over McLouth.

JCN burst out of the gate with a 26-2 first quarter and then went on to lead it at the half 53-6 over McLouth, cruising to the win after that. The Chargers were lead by junior, Jacee Kramer who posted 35 points and scored her 1,000th career point on the night. Three other players joined Jacee with double figures for JCN as Jamie Navinskey tallied 13, Heather Polson added 11 and Jenna Kramer chipped in 10 points.

For McLouth it was a struggle all night as only three players scored, accounting for your 17 points on the night.

With the win JCN improved to 9-2 on the year and moved to the semifinals of their home tournament, while McLouth fell to 2-9 on the year.

#6 Perry Lecompton 42-22 over #3 Maranatha

It was an upset via the seeding but the Perry Lecompton lady Kaws took control of the game early and didn't give up the lead they built. Perry worked out to a 9-2 lead after the first quarter and then stretched that to a 21-3 at the half, as Maranatha kept the second relatively even but Perry Lecompton built a large enough lead to easily win it 42-22.

The Kaws on the night had seven players get in the scorer's book with junior, Haslten Coyle leading the way with 16 points.

With the win the Kaws of Perry Lecompton improve to 4-7 and move on to the semifinals to face JCN, while Maranatha falls to 5-5 on the season.
