Frankfort Sweeps Onaga on the Road in a TVL Showdown

Both teams looking to bounce back from losses it was the lady Wildcats of Frankfort going on the road to top the lady Buffaloes of Onaga, 37-30 behind a 11-4 second quarter that gave Frankfort control of the game. Wildcats got out to a 12-8 in the contest and stretched it to a 23-12 margin at the half with their second quarter performance. Onaga closed the game to within seven in the second half but was never able to get closer than that margin.

For Frankfort, all but seven points of their 37 was scored by two gals as they were lead by senior, Josie Hale who tallied 20 points. Hale's performance earned her the Community National Bank of Seneca and Sabetha "Player to Bank On" award for the night, balancing her scoring throughout the game. Senior, Jessa Jones added 10 points to go along with Hale's 20 for 30 of the 37 Wildcats tallies.

Onaga in the loss was lead by three players who finished with six points each as sophomores, Amber Knopp and Rebekah Glessner each tallied the mark, along with junior, Jocelyn Marten.

With the win Frankfort improved to 10-4 on the season and snapped their one-game losing streak and they will look to continue that momentum on Friday when they host B&B on Friday. For Onaga the loss moves them to 4-11 on the season, as they have now loss four games in a row and will try for a win next Tuesday against B&B on the road.

Boys

The Buffaloes of Onaga looking to respond to a loss to Frankfort earlier this season in the TVL tournament came out with a fast start but the Wildcats responded to tie the game at 7-7 with 0.8 seconds left in the first quarter. That's when the momentum shifted to Frankfort as Onaga turned the ball over with on time off the clock and Frankfort in the half court set up a three for senior, Alex Surdez who drained it at the buzzer, to give Frankfort a 10-7 lead. Frankfort went on to lead the rest of the game and win it on the road 53-42.

Just like in the second quarter of the girls game Frankfort used that period to gain control of the game, as they outscored Onaga 14-5 in the period. The second half proved to be a stalemate with Onaga outscoring Frankfort by one in the second half overall.

It was the trio of Calahan Brown and Surdez, both seniors and junior, Lucas Adams who paced the way in the win for Frankfort. Surdez lead the Wildcats with 15 points on the night, including three three-pointers, while Brown and Adams each chipped in 13 points apiece. Surdez with his team high 15 points and a pair buzzer beating shots in the first and third quarters, earned the Community National Bank of Seneca and Sabetha "Player to Bank On" honors for the game. Sophomore, Jacob Studer, also had a solid game off the bench with seven points all in the second half.

Senior, Thomas Eisenbarth for Onaga paced them in the loss has he had a game-high 17 points on the night, good enough for a new season high. Senior, Mitchell Kufahl was the second highest scorer for Onaga on the night with six points.

With the win Frankfort as now won four straight of Onaga and improved to 9-6 on the season, having won their last three games and will look to continue that streak Friday when they host B&B. With the loss Onaga fell to 9-6 on the season having loss their last three games and will look to get on the right track Tuesday against B&B on the road.
