Nemaha Valley Splits with Santa Fe Trail on the Road in Two Tough Games

After suffering their first loss in 2013 the Lady Raiders of Nemaha Valley went on the road to try and avenge a loss earlier this season in Seneca against the Chargers of Santa Fe Trail, as the Chargers won that game by 18 points. This time was a different story the Raiders have been playing great and even the loss to Sabetha almost earned the win and gave the Chargers all they could handle but Santa Fe Trail held on late for the 49-42 win.

It was tied after the first quarter of action 17-17 with each team trading blows back and forth, Santa Fe Trail then outscored Nemaha Valley by four in the second period to have a four-point lead at the half. Coming out of the half the Raiders closed the lead to one after three quarters, but down the stretch couldn't surpass the Chargers as they hit some free throws to close the game.

Both team say a balanced scoring night with only one player for each team hitting the double figure mark on the night. For the Chargers, senior, Dani Jo Kuney lead they way with 10 points, while senior, Holly UIlery and junior, Shelby Dahl each added nine points.

Nemaha Valley on the night was lead by senior, Ashley Rottinghaus as she tallied 10 points, while sophomore's, Jaci Swart and Kennedy McKernan both added seven points on the road.

With the win Santa Fe Trail earned their 12th win of the season, improving to 12-3 on the year as they turn their sights to Jeff West on Tuesday as they play host to the Tigers. Nemaha Valley with the loss falls to 9-6 on the season and sets up for another tough road game on Tuesday when they will play Holton (Game will be broadcasted on 103.9 KNZA).

Boys

Raiders have been tested this season with some games and have passed all those tests to remain unbeaten at 14-0 on the year ahead into the game on the road against a 4-10, Santa Fe Trail Chargers squad. The Chargers came out with a push early and a great crowd to lead Nemaha Valley 17-12 after the first quarter.

The Raiders stayed composed and used a 10-6 second period to close the gap to one-point at the half, 23-22 in favor of the Chargers, as Santa Fe Trail had led by 10 points at one-point in the first half. Nemaha Valley's momentum continued in the third quarter with a 14-6 period for a 36-29 lead after three on the road. The Raiders used a big fourth quarter by senior, Creighton Brinker and some late free throws to seal the win and remain unbeaten on the season.

Brinker lead the the Raiders on the night with a season high 25 point; eight of which came in the fourth quarter including a vicious two handed throwdown. Junior, Justice McKernan joined Brinker in double figures finishing with 12 points, hitting a pair of trey's on the night, while senior, Trent Olberding added nine points.

In the loss the Chargers were lead by senior, Tyler Shaffer who busted out for 17 points on the night, while junior, Chase Logan added nine and sophomore, Weston Gloss chipped in eight points, all in the fourth quarter.

With the win Nemaha Valley continues the season unbeaten improving to 15-0 on the year and turn their eyes to what anticipates to be a tough road game on Tuesday against Holton. Santa Fe Trail falls to 4-11 on the season with the loss and sets their sights on the Jeff West Tigers who roll into Carbondale on Tuesday.
