Axtell Steams Past Rural Vista in Regionals

The Axtell Eagles are 8M-ll regional champions, destroying the Rural Vista Heat 46-0 and ending the game by halftime. Axtell is now 2-0 all-time against Rural Vista.

Summary

Rural Vista elected to receive after winning the coin toss and on their first play senior running back Kole Riedy had a 48-yard long run down the sideline, but was caught by a touchdown saving shoestring tackle by Colin Shaugnessy, and honestly the play of the game for Axtell. Right after the one big play for the Heat, that was it, it would be all Axtell for the rest of the game.

Rural Vista would turn it over on downs and Axtell would find their first score on a Wyatt Detweiler to Joe Lybarger connection, just one of two touchdown passes to Joe Lybarger. The first quarter ended 24-0 with Axtell converting all three two-point conversions on all scores. 

Axtell put up another 22 points in the second quarter with Bill Lybarger catching the game ending touchdown pass on a 25-yard score to make it 46-0. On the final drive for Rural Vista with a minute left to go, Joe Lybarger would call game with an interception, ending the best season in program history for the Rural Vista Heat. 

Wyatt Detweiler was the player of the game as he had a phenomenal game with 230 yards passing going 10 of 11 for five touchdowns. Detweiler also added 34 yards rushing. On defense Wyatt Detweiler led the charge with 11 tackles and one interception. Axtell had 297 yards of offense total while limiting Rural Vista 100 yards of offense. 

Joe Lybarger and Colin Shaugnessy both caught two touchdown passes, with Lybarger leading the way with 99 yards receiving and Shaugnessy followed in route with 97 yards receiving. Lybarger also added the lone rushing touchdown from the goal line for the Eagles.

Axtell will now rematch against Frankfort in sectionals, who they just beat two weeks ago 60-14.
