The Riverside football team won at Centralia for the first time since the early 1970's on Friday night to capture the Regional Championship with a fairly dominate 41-26 win.

The Cyclones (8-2) got off to a quick start with a 14-0 first quarter advantage. The first touchdown on a five yard run from Chase Hewins and that was followed by an 11 yard touchdown reception by Ty'Zell Harrington.

Centralia (8-2) cut the deficit to 14-6 after a 48 yard touchdown run by quarterback Quentin Alderfer.

On the ensuing kickoff, Hewins stormed 80+ yards to the house to quickly make the score 21-6. Elijah Moore had a career night for the Cyclones as he scored the first of his three touchdowns late in the first half from two yards out to make the score 27-6 at the break.

Moore would score two more times in the second half as he finished with over 170 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

Alderfer scored two more times in the second half finishing with three rushing touchdowns on the night with also Bronx Talley adding a late touchdown for the Panthers in the fourth quarter.

Before Wathena and Elwood consolidated to form Riverside, the drought against Centralia went back a long way with Wathena’s last win coming in 1970 and Elwood’s in 1972.

Riverside will get a rematch against undefeated and #1 ranked Jackson Heights in Holton in the Sectional Round. Jackson Heights beat Olpe in overtime 21-20 to advance.

The Cobras defeated the Cyclones 21-0 in the first game of the season. Riverside and Jackson Heights in the Sectional round will be broadcast live on 103.9 KNZA and the Cobra Channel courtesy of MSC Sports.
