Delaware Valley League All League Basketball Honors Given Out
By Mike Smith

It was the final year of a league that started back in 1981 in the Delaware Valley League. The 14 team league grew to big for some and lead to a split after this school year as eight of the teams left to form the Northeast Kansas League which will now be nine teams with KSHSAA placing Horton in the league along with the teams to leave the DVL to form the new league: Jefferson County North, Valley Falls, Pleasant Ridge, Jackson Heights, Maur Hill-Mount Academy, McLouth, Oskaloosa and Immaculata.

The remaining other schools will be joining other leagues for ACCHS and Riverside they are headed to the Big Seven, Troy and Doniphan West to the Twin Valley League and KC Christian will be independent.

With the DVL disbanding that means the final All-DVL teams from basketball will be this year and they have been announced after another great year of basketball.

Both ACCHS and Jefferson County North paced the way with the most first and second team honors for boys and girls, each placing six girls and boys on the first and second teams honors.

For the Tigers on the boys side, they were lead by Jacob Hansen and Ricky Kearney both seniors this year as ACCHS worked their way to another unbeaten regular season and DVL title, with Kearney and Hansen's play earning them first team All-DVL. Their teammate, Ramsey Hundley earned second team honors this year. On the girls side they had another solid season yet again finishing second in the DVL and being lead by senior, Allison Wallisch and Rachel Newquist also all season who both earned first team All-DVL, while Taylor Vanderloo registered second team honors.

The Chargers of JCN on the girls side followed up a state championship season with a state runner-up year in Class 2A, while winning the DVL again this year. Lady Chargers were lead by Jacee Kramer who was one of the top scorers in the state, which helped her earned All-DVL first team honors, while her teammate Jamie Navinskey joined her. Mallory Kramer and Heather Polson both constantly contributed all season for the Chargers and earned second All-DVL honors. On the boys side it was Jacob GrandPre and Luke Pyle both getting the first team nod, while Cory Noll earned second team.

Every other team in the DVL earned at least one player on the first team or second team All-DVL squads outside of KC Christian.

Riverside Cyclones placed two gals on the first team and two boys on the second team, as Ashleigh Bristol and Allie Simonin both garnered first team honors after helping their team to a fourth place finish in the DVL. On the boys side Andrae McGaughy, Zach Halter and Alex Davidson all registered second team All-DVL honors.

For the Valley Falls Dragons the boys finished second in the league and had two players earn first team All-DVL honors with Luke Burns and Ben Gantz taking the honors. On the girls side, the lone lady Dragon on the first or second team was Ashley Miller getting the first team nod.

The Troy Trojans placed three players between the girls and boys on the All-DVL first and second team, with Paige Fenley leading the way as she earned first team honors and Colin Jasper and Jake Ross each took home second team honors.

Ravens of Maur Hill were lead in All-league honors by senior, Evan Wheeler who earned first team while his teammate Brock Hanf, took home second team honors and on the girls side Jacey Frakes registered second team, also.

The Horton Chargers in All-league honors were lead by Trey Dishon who earned first team honors, while Sarah Coversup registered second team honors on the girls side. McLouth too had two players between first and second team honors just like Horton as Carter Gish took home first team honors and Kayla Steffey second team honors.

Doniphan West saw Abbi Ellis earn first team All-DVL honors while her teammate Kassiday Blevins registered second team honors. While Pleasant Ridge did the same as Doniphan West with one gal on the first team and another on the second team. Rams were lead by Ashten Langley who earned first team honors and Jordan Adams took home second team honors.

Oskaloosa only had one player each earn first team or second team honors and it was first team honors with senior, Seth Steward taking home first team All-DVL honors.

Jackson Heights and Immaculata didn't have any first team all-leaguers but did have a pair of second teamers each. For the Cobras, Cameron Thomas on the boys side and Payton Thomas on the girls side earned second team honors. While, Sean Murray and Laniey Bell earned the honors for the Raiders of Immaculata.
