Highland Softball Sweeps DH with Allen County in Dominate Fashion

Highland CC Scotties softball team started off the season ranked 18th in Division II after a stellar season last year that resulted in a national tournament bid and have played up to their ranking thus far as they improved to 9-1 on the season with a double-header sweep of Allen County.

Scotties blasted past Allen County with a 12-0 five inning win and a 14-1 five inning win also, while having great pitching and offense in both matchups.

Highland out-hit Allen County 13 to two in the 12-0 win and freshman, Paige Crawford lead the way on the mound pitching all five innings of work allowing only two hits and a walk, while striking out six. Crawford also had offensive highlights with a 1-2 day with an RBI, walk and run scored. About half of the Scotties hits came the the trio Holly Wilmarth, Kaley Pyles and Jessica Troupe who each registered a pair of hits. Freshman, Wilmarth and Pyles went 2-3 and 2-2 respectively on the day accounting for five RBI's and five runs scored. While, sophomore and McLouth native, Jessica Troupe tallied a 2-3 day.

Scotties continued their offensive onslaught on the day against Allen County with a 14-1 win in which Highland tallied 18 points to Allen Counties four hits. Highland opened the offensive flood gates in the third inning scoring nine of their 14 runs in that frame. Freshman, Wilmarth and Kellyn Holt each finished the game with three hits, two runs scored and at least one RBI. For Wilmarth she continued her sizzling bat with a 3-4 performance, posting four RBI's, while Holt went 3-3 with an RBI. Freshman, Taylor Zimmerman also got in the mix with a 2-2 game with a walk, two RBI's and three runs scored. Freshman pitcher from Cape Town, South Africa, Natalie Abrahams started the game pitching three innings giving up two hits, walk and striking out three, while freshman, Jasmine Stewart finished the game pitching the final two innings giving up two hits, one run and two walks.

The #18 Highland continues their season today with a matchup against the #18 team in Division I, Iowa Western today with a doubleheader in Highland starting at 2:00pm.
