1A-D1 Sub-State Final

Troy stepped on the floor, attempting to yet again make school history. This time, by going back to the state tournament in consecutive years for the first time ever. Unfortunately that would not be the case on Saturday evening.

Troy took on top seed and the second ranked team in the classification, Wabaunsee, falling short by the final of 47-37.

Wabaunsee would jump out early on Troy, leading 7-2 early as the Trojans struggled with turnovers early. The Chargers would continue to extend their lead through the end of the first frame, leading 17-6 as we went to the second. Senior Harper Whetstine, the all-time leader in scoring for Troy was held scoreless in the opening frame. The second stanza was even as each club poured in ten points each and Wabaunsee maintained their lead of eleven going to the halftime break. Whetstine was able to get into the scoreres column with two buckets in the quarter to lead Troy with four points at the break as they trailed 27-16.

That double digit lead for Wabaunsee never came in jeopardy in the second half as the Chargers would lead by as many as 17, but would never let the Trojans closer than 10 to close out the game. There is no shot-clock in the post-season for the 1A-3A classes, and Wabaunsee was able to work long extended offensive possessions throughout the second half to salt this game away. Troy, having just six offensive possessions (unofficially) in the final six minutes of game time, struggled to chip away at the Charger lead.

Troy will bring back heavy varsity experience next year from Junior Hailey Groff and Sophomore Haley Williams while looking for expanded roles from Sophomore's Kyler Luedke, Avery Kostman, Ava Marriott, Freshman Elliette Geiger, Leena Wiedmer and Ella Grable.

For the three Trojan seniors, Whetstine, Alyson Grable and Nicole Judd it was the final time they would don the blue uniforms. The final time they would be a part of 29th year Coach Derek Jasper's pep talks on the court. These three have made their mark in Lady Trojan history on and off the court, and their careers will come just one game short of making history once again. All three, Whetstine, Grable and Judd were named as the Citizens State Bank & Trust "Players to Bank on" for the game.

Scoring Leaders -

Troy - H. Whetstine 13, H. Groff 7, N. Judd 6, H. Williams 4, K. Luedke 3, A. Grable 2, E. Geiger 2
