Girls 2A State Tournament Quarterfinals

Appearing in their sixth state tournament in the last seven years, the Valley Heights girls basketball team had their 2025-2026 season end in the opening round of the 2A State Tournament in Salina.
It was a tale of two halves with the Wildcats leading the Mustangs 14-10 at the end of the first quarter. Valley Heights had their best play in the second quarter outscoring the defending champs 14-13 in the second eight minutes to only trail by three at halftime.
Moundridge tightened up on the defensive effort and was more efficient on the offensive end in the second half to help pull away for the win and knock out the Mustangs.
Senior Ava Smith led Valley Heights in the game with 21 points while adding seven rebounds and two steals. Lindsay Gray finished with nine points and five rebounds while Mia Vermetten finished with eight points and four rebounds.
Moundridge was led by Cammi Unruh with a game-high 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting while adding five rebounds and two steals. Mackenzie Conkling came off the bench and had 15 points while Addysen Patrick finished with nine points.
For Valley Heights, it was their 17th trip to the state tournament as they will finish off with a record of 19-8 for the 2025-2026 season.
The defending state champs in Moundridge improved to 24-2 overall and will advance to take on Sacred Heart in the semifinals on Thursday afternoon in Emporia.
