Boys 2A State Tournament Quarterfinals

Berean Academy - 55
Rossville - 38

The Rossville boys basketball team made their second consecutive trip to the Class 2A State Tournament, but for the second straight season their postseason run ended in the opening round.

A year ago, Rossville was eliminated by Ell-Saline. This time, the Bulldogs fell to No. 2-ranked Berean Academy at Friends University in Wichita.

Both teams struggled to find offensive rhythm early. Berean Academy held a narrow 9-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. Rossville’s offensive struggles continued in the second period, as the Bulldogs committed more turnovers than points in the quarter and went into halftime trailing 20-12.

The pace picked up in the second half, with both teams finding more consistency offensively. However, Berean Academy gradually extended its advantage, building an 11-point lead by the end of the third quarter and maintaining control the rest of the way.

The Warriors placed two players in double figures. Wyatt Friesen led all scorers with 20 points, while Emory Kukula added 16.

Jakoby McDonnell paced Rossville with 14 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Cameron Miller contributed 10 points, and Landen Lewis added nine points off the bench.

Rossville’s leading scorer, Jack Donovan, was held scoreless on 0-for-8 shooting, including 0-for-5 from beyond the arc. Donovan closes his career as Rossville’s second all-time leading scorer and the program’s all-time leader in career three-pointers.

McDonnell also finishes his career among the program’s all-time leaders, ranking first in assists and second in steals.

Rossville concludes the season with a 17-8 record. Berean Academy improves to 23-2 and advances to face St. Mary’s-Colgan in the Class 2A semifinals Friday night in Emporia.
