The Bears closed out their 2025-2026 season in dramatic fashion in Emporia on Saturday afternoon with a double-overtime thriller over the Panthers of St. Marys-Colgan.

Colgan would put the clamps on in the second quarter outscoring St. Marys 15-8 to take a 39-30 lead into the halftime break.

Colgan would get their lead up to 14 a few minutes into the third quarter, and that is when the Bears would start to make their move.

St. Marys chipped away in the back half of the third quarter and get to within 50-42 going into the fourth quarter.

The Bears would outscore Colgan 16-8 in the fourth quarter to send it to a first overtime. Ben DeVader for St. Marys had a decent look at the buzzer that would of won it at the end of regulation, but it fell a touch short from the baseline.

Both teams would score 10 points in the first overtime as it was 68-68 going into the second overtime period. St. Marys would put it into another gear in the second overtime putting the game away with a 17-5 advantage in the second extra four minute period.

St. Marys senior Ben DeVader capped his incredible career with a 31 point outing which included seven made threes, seven rebounds, and four steals. Killian McCann, who had not scored until the fourth quarter, would finish the game with 19 points and four rebounds. Colgan totaled five players in double figures led by Will Schremmer with 16 points while Gabriel Brown finished with 15 points and four rebounds. Brady Bettega added 13, and both Jayden Brown and Brady Crossland finished with 11 points.

Colgan led for more than 29 minutes in the game while St. Marys only had a lead for north of five minutes, but the lead at the end was all that mattered for the Bears.

St. Marys outscored Colgan 19-2 in second chance points, and Colgan outrebounded St. Marys 35-33. St. Marys forced Colgan into 14 turnovers with 13 of those coming from steals.
