Nemaha Central vs Holton (10-0) - Regional Quarterfinal
The Nemaha Central Thunder rolled past the Holton Wildcats in a dominant offensive showcase at home, securing a 10-0 victory in the opening round of Regionals. The game ended via the 10-run rule in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Thunder struck early at the plate, as Carter Stallbaumer opened the game with a leadoff solo home run for his second homer of the season. Despite loading the bases with one out in the first inning, Nemaha Central managed just the lone run. Kannon Segenhagen made two impressive catches in the outfield to help Holton escape the inning without further damage.
Holton recorded its first hit of the game in the top of the second on a single from Cody Rodriguez, but the sophomore was left stranded at second base to end the inning.
Nemaha Central broke the game open in the bottom of the third, erupting for eight runs on five hits, including three doubles in the inning. Jack Macke delivered a clutch two-out, two-RBI double, followed by a two-RBI bloop single from Caleb Hynek that cleared the bases.
Holton finished the game with just three hits while leaving five runners on base and striking out 10 times at the plate. The final run came in the bottom of the sixth when Nemaha Central loaded the bases with no outs and brought in senior Eli Sudbeck as a pinch hitter. Sudbeck delivered a sacrifice fly to the outfield that scored Carter Hajek, who now leads the team with 30 runs scored this season.
The Thunder totaled 11 hits on the night, including five extra-base hits, while leaving seven runners on base.
Senior pitcher Kamden Schmitz turned in a gem for Nemaha Central, allowing just three hits while striking out eight batters in a scoreless outing. Mason Schultejans closed out the game in the top of the sixth, facing the minimum and striking out the final two batters he faced.
Nemaha Central advances to the 3A Regional Semifinals for another consecutive season and will now await the winner between Pleasant Ridge and Maur Hill.
Holton concludes its season with a strong senior class led by Caleb McCrory, who made multiple athletic plays at third base, along with Korben Fox and Cael Frazier, who made his final start on the mound against Nemaha Central.
