Sabetha Holds Off Upset Minded Royal Valley in Regional Tournament Opener

The #2 ranked Sabetha Bluejays baseball team opened the 3A Regional Tournament on Wednesday afternoon with a 7-6 win over Royal Valley. 

Sabetha (22-4) came out early and produced with a five-run second inning. They got RBI knocks in the inning from Ike Tramp on a triple, Cole Menold with a single, Camden Wittwer with a single, and Micah Lang with a single. 

The Panthers (3-21) bounced right back with four runs in the third inning. Samuel Hickman drove in two with a single, John Young drove in one with a single, and Ronin Gentile drove in one with a single. 

Lang was hit by a pitch in the fifth inning which led to a Bluejays run which gave them a 6-4 lead. One more was tallied in the sixth inning on an RBI groundout by Tramp. 

Royal Valley trailed 7-4 going into the seventh inning and got RBI's in the inning from Hickman and Hunter May. 

Down one with the bases loaded and two outs, Cooper Stevens lined out to third which ended the game and the Panthers upset bid. 

Sabetha will host the regional tournament semifinal and championship games on Tuesday. Nemaha Central will face Maur Hill beginning at 2:00 PM followed by the Bluejays against Silver Lake.
