Onaga over Jefferson County North (15-0) - 1-2A Regional 1 Quarterfinal

The Onaga Buffaloes put on a dominant display of offensive firepower in the 1-2A Regional Quarterfinals, defeating JCN 15-0 in just three innings.

Onaga wasted no time getting on the board, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning off four hits. Addison Dechant led off the game with a single, and shortly after, Willow Hochsteddler reached base as well. Abbie Ringle then drove both runners home with a two-RBI double before later coming around to score herself, giving the Buffaloes an early 3-0 lead.

Both teams were held scoreless in the second inning.

JCN threatened at the top of the third when Morgan Turner led off with a single. The Chargers later loaded the bases with two outs, but Hochsteddler escaped the jam by recording her fifth and final strikeout of the game — her 138th strikeout of the season.

What followed in the bottom of the third was an offensive explosion that quickly ended the game. Entering the inning with only a 3-0 advantage, the Buffaloes erupted for 12 runs on nine hits. Onaga scored nine consecutive runs before recording its first out of the inning. Every player scored at least once, and 16 batters came to the plate during the frame.

Dechant finished 3-for-4 with three singles, including the game-winning RBI single. Ringle reached base in all three of her plate appearances, scored three runs, drew two walks, and added a two-RBI double. As a team, the Buffaloes were outstanding in clutch situations, going 8-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

Head coach Suzanne Booth is in her first season leading the Onaga program after taking over this year. The Buffaloes have reached back-to-back state tournaments, including a third-place finish in 2024, and appear to be right on track for another deep postseason run and a potential state title push.

Onaga will now face McLouth in the regional semifinal on Wednesday.
