Two basketball teams with high hopes and expectations for the 2012-13 season tipped off the year at Highland. Doniphan West jumped to an early 17-11 advantage after one quarter and made the lead stand up holding on for a 40-36 win. The big difference in this game was at the foul-line where D-West was 22 of 31 and Valley Falls was just 3 of 10. The Lady Mustangs got 13 points each from Kassidy Blevins and Abbi Ellis while Payton Leach and Reagan Gibson added 7 apeice. Ashley Miller had a game-high 19 for Valley Falls, but no other Lady Dragon player had more than 5 for Molly Tillery.
