Boys Basketball - Valley Heights vs Clifton-Clyde 01/21/2017 2:30 PM

TVL Tournament (at Washington County) - 5th place game

A balanced scoring attack with five guys hitting eight points or more helped guide Valley Heights to a win to finish the TVL tournament and take fifth place behind a 63-55 win over Clifton-Clyde. Clifton-Clyde went up 7-5 in the first two minutes of the game but Valley Heights answered and led 24-16 after the first quarter. The lead went up to double figures in the second quarter for the Mustangs and going it halftime Clifton-Clyde trailed 38-27. Eagles came out of halftime and hit a pair of early three's and with 5:24 in the third had closed the lead to just four points, but Valley Heights answered and held their largest lead at the end of the third up 49-34. Clifton-Clyde got within single digits again in the fourth and hung tough but behind 12-18 from the free throw line in the second half Valley Heights secured the win. Valley Heights finished the tournament with a 3-1 mark and 8-4 overall record and were led by Bryan Yungeberg who scored 20 points, hitting four three's earning Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA. Adrian Pishny added 12 points for the Mustangs and Jeremy Reed scored nine. Clifton-Clyde was led by Matt Barnes who scored 21 points, while Zach Sorell chipped in 12 points and the Eagles fell to 5-9 on the season and went 2-2 in the tournament.
