Football - Sabetha vs Marysville 11/25/2017 1:00 PM

Sabetha Bluejays earned their third State title and first in 20 years with a tough 7-6 win over Marysville in the 3A State title game in Hutchinson. Marysville using a short field off a mishap on a punt by Sabetha the Bulldogs took the lead in the 2nd quarter on a 16-yard Jack Blumer to Gabe Pieschl touchdown pass and went into halftime up 6-0. Sabetha out of the half took the first drive of the second half down the field for a touchdown capping the drive with a Wyatt Beyer 8-yard touchdown run and PAT good by Braeden Cox to make it 7-6. The Bluejays ultimately had another defensive stand at the end of the game to perserve the win as Gabe Garber intercepted a pass on the 1-yard line in the final 30 seconds of the game to stop Marysville for the fifth time in the redzone. 

Marysville outgained Sabetha 334 to 121 total yards of offense but the Bulldogs had three turnovers and a pair of turnover on downs situations too. 

Sabetha was led by Joe Gruber who ran for 54 yards on 18 carries and had an interception on defense, while Beyer ran 7 times for 27 yards with a TD and Garber had 6 carries for 34 yards and an interception on defense. Marysville in the loss was led by Blumer who was 29-40 for 227 yards with a TD and 2 INTs, while Jacob Backus caught 15 passes for 115 yards and Pieschl caught 5 passes for 64 yards but did have a fumble.
