TVL Tournament (at Onaga) - 5th place game
For the second straight year the Valley Heights Mustangs boys captured fifth place at the TVL Tournament but it didn't come easy as they used a strong fourth quarter to take down Axtell 59-45. Spear headed by Bryan Yungeberg Valley Heights jumped out to a 9-0 lead and led 16-7 after the first quarter with Yungeberg scoring seven points in the first quarter. The Mustangs their lead up to 12 in the second quarter but led by nine at the half 32-23. Axtell came out strong in the second half taking their first led at 36-34 with just under three minutes in the third and led 42-38 after three quarters. Mustangs answered with a 6-0 run to tie the game at 42-42 and a Yungeberg three-pointer gave the Valley Heights the lead again and the Mustangs finished the game with a 21-3 fourth to earn the win.
Valley Heights with the win improved to 6-6 on the year and took fifth place in the TVL Tournament. Yungeberg led the Mustangs with 17 points and earned Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on 92.1 KMZA. Harrison Blaske added 15 points, while Jeremy Reed netted 13 points. Axtell fell to 4-8 on the season and was led by Hunter Koch who scored 19 points, while Quinn Buessing tallied 12 points.
