Hanover opens district play with a win, while Axtell falls to 0-2 in district play, setting up an playoff spot elimination game with Frankfort next week for Eagles; as Frankfort is 0-2 in district play also.
Axtell lead early in the game with a 28 yard TD run by Aaron Schmelzle in the first quarter. But Hanover would score the next three touchdowns to take control of the game with Wildcat quarterback, Cody Neiman tossing three TD passes to three different players. Mark Zarybnicky, Hunter Nicholson and Gylan Goeckel caught TD passes of 25, 3 and 10 yards, respectively.
Hanover led it 24-8 in the third quarter when Axtell started to respond and score back to back touchdowns with Aaron Schmelzle throwing a 40 yard TD pass to Dylan Heiman and Taylor Platt rushing for 3 yard score, to bring the Eagles with four 24-20, after both two conversion failed for the Eagles.
Only ahead by four points the Wildcats responded to stretch out the lead with the rushing attack as Zarybnicky rushed for the two finals scores of the game (13 & 22 yards).
Schmelzle in the loss finished 2-6 for 65 yards TD and 20 carries for 86 yards TD. While Neiman tossed 3 TD passes and Zarybnicky caught a TD and rushed for two more.
