It was a tight ballgame until the fourth quarter when the frame belonged to Atchison outscoring Holton 10-0 in the fourth to secure the win, after the game enter the final frame tied at 14-14. Adam Smith finished the night for Atchison 8-11 for 189 yards with 2 TDs and 2 rushing TDs, as Bryce Enzbrenner caught five passes for 145 yards with 2 TDs. Austin Bonnel added a 30-yard field goal.
For Holton it marks the third straight year with a season opening loss. The Wildcats were led by Miles McClintock-Strozier who ran for 163 yards and TD. Spencer Baum also had a rushing TD.
