Several Area Schools Compete at Jayhusker Wrestling Tournament in Marysville

2016 Jayhusker Wrestling Tournament (at Marysville) - Team Scores    Individual Results 

Saturday was filled with great action on the mats and Marysville hosted the annual Jayhusker tournament involving 15 teams several from northeast Kansas and southeast Nebraska.

At the end of the tournament it was Salina Central with 177.5 points laying claim to the tournament title, while the host Marysville took second place as a team with 160 points. The rest of the area teams notched team finishes of 10th through 15th as Sabetha took 10th, Doniphan West placed 11th, Onaga finished 12th, while Johnson County Central and Hiawatha tied for 13th and Falls City took 15th as a team. 

Fifteen area grapplers earned Top four finishes at Marysville with the host Marysville leading the way. 

The Bulldogs on their way to second place as a team had nine Top four finishes including a pair of guys win their weight classes. Chris Deters took home the top spot at 132lbs on the day going 3-0 in action with a pair of pinfall wins in 55 and 13 seconds, while winning the Championship bout by a 3-0 decision. Jacob Stryker joined Deters atop the podium by going 3-0 and winning the 160lbs weight class, registering all three wins by decision 9-4, 5-2 and 3-1 in the Championship match. Second place was earned by Jacob Mintzmyer at 170lbs for the Bulldogs as he went 3-1 on the day. While Nick Ackerman (182lbs), Caleb Vogelsberg (195lbs), Skylar Widmer (126lbs) and Ethan Crownover (120lbs) all finished the day with third place finishes by all going 3-1, expect Widmer who was 4-1. Two more Bulldogs took fourth place as Chance Hight (113lbs) and Gabe Capp (145lbs) each went 3-2 on the mats and brought home fourth place.

Two Sabetha Bluejays registering Top four finishes at the Jayhusker tournament as Seth Harrell (126lbs) and Brandon Brownlee (132lbs) took second and fourth place, respectively in their weight classes. Harrell notched a 2-1 record, while Brownlee was 3-2 on the mats. 

The duo of Garret Dunlap (160lbs) and Kody Collins (182lbs) continued to have strong seasons on the mats for Doniphan West as Dunlap placed third and Collins second in their weight classes. Dunlap finished the day 4-1, while Collins posted a 3-1 record. 

Onaga and Johnson County Central each had a Top four finisher also on the day as Quentin Lara (220lbs) and Sam Salidvar (106lbs) took second and fourth, respectively for Onaga and JCC. Lara finished with a 2-1 record in action on the mats, while Salivar was 1-2.
