Area Athletes Help Lady Prospects Basketball Team Perform Well in Capital City Showcase

Over the weekend, the Lady Prospects 15U team traveled up to the Cornhusker state to play in the Capital City Showcase in Lincoln, NE. The team composed of Taylor Brunton(Washburn Rural), Lakhota Conklin(Washburn Rural), Lindsey Heim(Pleasant Ridge), Reagan Kirkwood(Valley Falls), Grace Mlynek(Shawnee Heights), Aaliyah Negonsott(Jeff West), Sophia Purcell(Topeka Hayden), Madison Vaught(Jeff County North) and Hannah Wertenberger(Sabetha), battled tough competition from Nebraska, Missouri and Kansas.

First up was a very skilled and athletic team from Missouri, the KC Lady Dragons. The Lady Dragons were in control for most of the game, but a late run by the Lady Prospects propelled them to a lead, and they held on for a one point victory. Second game was against one of the host club’s teams, the Cornhusker Shooting Stars Blue. The experience and size of the Lady Prospects proved to be too much for CSS as the Lady Prospects moved to 2-0 in the tournament.

The third game of the day came against a very feisty team from the state, Wester Kansas Elite. The Lady Prospects jumped out to a 18pt lead, but WKE fought back, but just ran out of time as the Lady Prospects held on to a six-point victory. The final game of the weekend, and for the tournament championship, proved to be a no contest. The Lady Prospects jumped out early on Nebraska Supreme and never looked back, cruising to a 24pt victory.

The Lady Prospects go 4-0 and take home the Gold Division of the Capital City Showcase!!
