Seventeen Area High School Basketball Teams Ranked in Latest KBCA Rankings

With the holiday break in the books it was back to high school basketball action last week and teams are looking to continue to improve and put together strong seasons. The latest Kansas Basketball Coaches Association rankings have been released and it features 17 area teams. 

Class 1A-Division I continues to house the most area teams between the girls and boys polls with eight area teams in the rankings. The Hanover girls and boys continue to hold down the #1 ranking as they both sit at 6-0 on the season after each picking up wins over Centralia last Friday. The Centralia Panther girls and boys are both in the rankings this week as the lady Panthers who are 7-1 after a win over Frankfort and loss to Hanover come in at #3 down one spot, while the boys jump into the rankings at #5 after beating Frankfort last week and falling to Hanover they sit at 6-2. 

The Doniphan West Mustangs boys continue hold a top spot in the 1A-DI rankings however they do move down one spot to #4 as they are 7-0 after beating Wetmore and Linn last week. Clifton-Clyde boys remain in the rankings but fell two spots to #10 and sit at 8-1 on the year after wins over Blue Valley-Randolph and Axtell last week. The other girls teams in the polls remain Frankfort and Valley Falls. The Frankfort girls are up one spot to #4 and sit at 8-1 after beating Blue Valley-Randolph last week and falling to Centralia. While Valley Falls who is 5-2 on the year after a win over Onaga remains ranked #9. 

Four area teams are ranked in the Class 4A-Division II polls with three on the girls side. The Holton lady Wildcats check in at #2 again in the latest rankings as they sit at 7-1 on the year after beating Atchison and Perry Lecompton last week. While Marysville girls move down one spot to #5 and sit at 7-1 after falling to Abilene last week. Jeff West girls with wins over Nemaha Central and Royal Valley are now 6-2 and move up four spots in the rankings to #6. On the boys side Marysville boys are 6-2 after a loss to Abilene and are down one spot to #7 in the rankings. 

Class 3A polls continue to be highlighted by the Nemaha Central Thunder as the girls and boys both are ranked #3. The lady Thunder beat Riverside last week but fell to Jeff West to sit at 7-1, while the boys are 8-0 after wins over Riverside and Jeff West. The Perry Lecompton boys remain ranked at #6 in the latest polls and sit at 7-1 on the season after beating ACCHS but falling to Holton. 

In Class 2A a pair of Northeast Kansas League teams jump into the rankings this week. On the girls side the Jackson Heights Cobras sit at 6-0 after a win over McLouth and rank #9, while the Jefferson County North boys also rank at #9 and are 6-0 after beating Pleasant Ridge and Maur Hill-Mount Academy last week. 

The season continues to heat up with action and teams gear up for midseason tournament action on the horizon.
