Seventeen Area High School Basketball Teams Ranked in Latest KBCA Rankings

With only a few weeks left of the regular season basketball teams in Kansas are gearing up for postseason and looking to finish the regular season strong. The Kansas Basketball Coaches Association has released their latest rankings and seventeen area teams find themselves in the polls this week. 

Eight area teams remain in the Class 1A-Division I rankings this week yet again with a few of them on the move. The Centralia girls have moved back up to #2 this week up two spots picking up a pair of wins last week over Onaga and Rock Creek to move to 13-2 on the season. Hanover girls remained ranked #3 this week after beating Washington County and Frankfort to improve to 11-3 on the season. While the Frankfort girls fell two spots in the rankings at #4 splitting their games last week with a win over Troy and loss at Hanover to move to 13-3. Valley Falls girls remain in the 1A-DI rankings also again checking in at #8 moving to 11-2 on the season after wins over Pleasant Ridge and Oskaloosa last week. 

On the boys side of the 1A-DI rankings the rank remained the same for the four area teams all from the Twin Valley League in the polls. Doniphan West boys despite suffering their first loss of the season on the road to Valley Heights remain ranked #2 in the latest rankings as the Mustangs are 14-1, splitting last week with a win over Blue Valley. Hanover earned wins over Washington County and Frankfort last week to move to 13-1 on the season and continue to hold the #3 spot in the rankings. Clifton-Clyde boys stay at #6 in the rankings grabbing wins over Southern Cloud and Wetmore to improve to 14-2. Centralia boys check in again at #8 and are 9-7 on the season after splitting last week with a win over Onaga and loss to a ranked 4A school in Rock Creek. 

Four area teams are ranked in Class 3A this week with three in the boy’s rankings coming in ranked #7, #8 and #9 in the polls. Perry Lecompton jumps up one spot to #7 this week after Sabetha and Royal Valley last week to improve to 13-2 on the season. While Maur Hill-Mount Academy moved down two spots to #8 this week despite a 2-0 week which included wins over Jackson Heights and Horton to move to 14-1 on the season. Nemaha Central boys fall four spots in the rankings this week to #9 but sit at 12-3 on the season after beating Holton and ACCHS last week. In the girls poll the #2 spot continues to belong to Nemaha Central as they are at 13-2 on the season after beating ACCHS and Holton last week. 

The Class 4A-Division II rankings continue to feature four area teams with three coming in the girl’s poll. The Jeff West Tigers move up again this week one spot and now come in at #4 and sit at 12-2 on the season after a win over Riverside last week. Marysville girls are also moving up on the polls climbing to #5 up one spot after wins over Riley County and Abilene last week to improve to 11-3 on the year. And just like the two area teams ahead of them in the polls the Holton girls are up one spot this week to moving to #7 after beating Royal Valley last week and falling to Nemaha Central to be 11-4 on the year. Marysville boys come in at #5 in the polls as they are 12-2 after beating Abilene and Riley County last week. 

Jefferson County North girls remain in the Class 2A rankings this week moving up two spots to #8 in the polls. Wins over Mclouth and Horton last week improved JCN to 11-2 on the season. 

Teams look to finish the regular season strong over the next few weeks and set themselves up for Sub-State basketball.
