Sabetha Boys Golf Wins Nemaha Central Invite

Several area teams teed it up on Thursday which proved to be one of the best days of weather for spring sports this season and plenty of strong performances were had on the links at Spring Creek golf course in Seneca. 

Sabetha Bluejays earned first place by posting a team score of 309 to win by 21 strokes over Wamego. Cornerstone took third place, while a team score of 351 by Frankfort earned the Wildcats fourth place. Holton rounded out the Top five team scores with a 365 to take fifth. Nemaha Central took sixth with a 366, while Maur Hill-Mount Academy, Valley Heights, Washington County and Centralia finished seventh through tenth with team scores of 389, 390, 425 and 428, respectively. St. Mary's and Oskaloosa also fielded teams on the day placing 11th and 12th, while Atchison Horton and Perry Lecompton were also represented at the competition. 

On the way to the top team spot Sabetha was led by the best two individual rounds of the meet as Garrett Scott and Jesse Burger finished in first and second after shooting a 70 and 72. Their teammate Tanner Ukele also tallied a Top 10 finish placing ninth after shooting an 82 and David Pierson rounded out the Bluejay four-man team score by carding an 85 to finish 13th. Carson Ukele also finished in the Top 20 placing 17th with an 88 as 74 total golfers were in action. 

Holton Wildcats were led by one of the five under 80 rounds on the day as AJ Haussler shot a 79 to place fifth. Ryan Taylor notched a 20th place finish by finishing with a 90 on the day. 

Valley Heights, Frankfort and Nemaha Central each had a Top 10 individual placer at the Nemaha Central Invite. The Mustangs were led by Bryan Yungeberg who shot a 81 for seventh place, while Frankfort Wildcat, Austin Hardwick finished eighth also carding an 81. Frankfort also had Brandon Anderson finish in the Top 20 posting a round of 88 to finish 15th. Nemaha Central was led by Dalton Schmelzle who placed tenth after posting an 83 on the day. 

Maur Hill-Mount Academy was led by Riley Funk who shot an 88 to place 18th on the day.
