2018 Legion Baseball State Tournament Brackets – AA State & AAA State

The AA state legion baseball tournament got underway Wednesday from Somerset Park in Sabetha and Silver Lake along with Marysville each went 1-0 on the day, while Sabetha dropped to 0-1 for the tournament.

Silver Lake Has No Problems with Russell

Behind two three-run innings and one seven-run inning, Silver Lake Post 160 moved to 1-0 in Pool A of the AA state legion baseball tournament with a 13-1 run-rule victory over Russell.

Silver Lake wasted no time jumping out in front in the contest plating three runs in the first inning. Trent Byers led off with a single, Mitchell Flanagan walked, and Cale Adams reached on an error which scored a run, all before Justin Keller brought in two runs with a single.

Post 160 then pushed their lead to 6-0 with three more runs in the second as Cale Adams and Justin Keller each picked up RBIs, while Russell got one run back in the bottom half of the inning.

After going scoreless in the third inning Silver Lake put the game away in the fourth, plating seven runs on three hits, three walks and a hit batsman. Trent Byers and Reid Walker each picked up two RBIs in the inning, while Tyler Blaylock recorded an RBI with a bases loaded walk.

Cale Adams picked up the win on the mound throwing just 44 pitches over three innings, while Justin Keller was 4-for-4 at the plate with 5 RBIs.

Next up for Silver Lake is Hoisington tonight in the second day of pool play, as first pitch is scheduled for 8:15 from Somerset Park.

Marysville Uses Five-Run Sixth to Down Sabetha

After a pitchers dual to start, Marysville used a five-run sixth inning to take control and down Sabetha 6-3 in the final game of the day in Pool B.

Marysville’s Jayton Haggard and Sabetha’s Brayden Becker were locked in pitchers dual to start as each put up zeros through the first two frames.

Marysville finally broke through in the third with a run, but Sabetha came right back with a run on a clutch two-out RBI-single from Braden Argabright which tied things up at one.

After Marysville made a pitching change to bring in Derek Roever the Raptors took their first lead of the game with another run in the fourth, as Joe Gruber led off with a triple before Riley Herrmann picked up an RBI on a groundout.

The 2-1 lead for Sabetha held through the fifth as Brayden Becker was cruising on the mound through the first five innings. But, Marysville finally got going in the sixth which forced Becker out of the game, as Marysville plated five runs to take a 6-2 heading into the seventh.

Sabetha made things interesting in the seventh scoring a run and having another runner at third base, but Marysville’s Storm Slupianek struck out Gruber to end the game.

Brennan Wetter of Marysville was named the McDonalds “Player of the Game” on 103.9 KNZA, as he finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI.

Marysville will now have the early game Thursday at 10:00 against Garnett, while Sabetha will have the third game of the day at 6:00 against Hays-TMP.
