The 2018 high school volleyball season continued Tuesday night with Northeast Kansas League volleyball action on 103.9 KNZA with the Horton Triangular, and it was Pleasant Ridge who came out undefeated with a pair of two-set wins over Valley Falls and the host Chargers.

The Rams opened up the night with a two-set win over Horton in straight sets 25-16 and 25-20. Pleasant Ridge rattled off three straight points to begin the first set, and then went on a run of seven straight midway through the set to lead 13-7 at one point. Senior Julie Miller ended the first set for the Rams with three straight aces, as Pleasant Ridge rattled off the last six points of set one.

Pleasant Ridge got off to another good start in the second set, scoring the first three points and five of the first seven to at one point lead 5-2. The lead in set two ballooned to as much as a 12-4 advantage, but Horton battled all the way back and tied the set at 15 thanks to two kills and three aces by Kailea Smith. From there the Rams took over outscoring the Chargers 10-5 to finish off the set and the match.

Just like the first match Pleasant Ridge started strong against Valley Falls and never looked back winning in straight sets 25-19 and 25-18. The Rams jumped out to a huge lead in set one and made quick work of the Dragons, scoring eight of the first nine points of the set. Pleasant Ridge didn’t stop there, jumping out to a 17-5 advantage halfway through set one. The Dragons tried to make a comeback rattling off four straight points on two separate occasions, but the Rams were able to hang on to take set one.

Set two was much closer, as the Dragons jumped out to a 5-3 advantage early. But from there Pleasant Ridge took over, rattling off seven straight points to lead 10-5 and extend their lead to as many as eight at 16-8. Valley Falls tried to get back into the match, but could never rattle off more than three points on any run which allowed the Rams to finish off the match.

In the final match of the night Valley Falls and Horton were each looking to avoid going 0-2 on the night, but it was Valley Falls who avoided a sweep taking the match in straight sets 25-19 and 25-12. Set No. 1 was back-and-forth the entire way through, until Valley Falls went on a 7-0 run to end the set. The second set was all Valley Falls from the start, as the Dragons jumped out to an 11-3 advantage. Valley Falls then put the set out of reach with a 6-0 run to lead 18-5, before ultimately going on to win 25-12.

The pair of wins moved Pleasant Ridge to 3-1 overall and in league play, while Valley Falls went to 3-1 in the league and 6-3 overall. The two losses dropped Horton to 0-3 overall and in league play.
