Centralia Girls Punch Ticket to 1A-I Semi-Finals After Dominant Win over Spearville

The Centralia girls basketball team opened their State Title run in Dodge City with a 59-42 win over Spearville in the Quarterfinals on Thursday night. 

The 2-seed Panthers (24-0) got down 4-0 in the first minute to the 7-seed Lancers (17-8) but scored six straight to take their first lead and they would never look back. 

Centralia led 21-9 after the first quarter and built it to 34-21 at halftime. The Lancers came out strong to start the third quarter and got back within single digits but Centralia used another big run to expand the lead to 16 heading into the fourth quarter. 

Oen Deters was fantastic with 18 of her 21 points in the first half. Deters also added eight rebounds and four steals. Her sister Avery added 13 points, nine rebounds and five steals. 

Lena Haverkamp and Abbie Flentie were also in double figures with 11 each. 

Centralia's defense tallied 13 steals and forced the Lancers into 24 turnovers in the ball game. 

Overall, the Panthers shot 43% from the floor in the game including hitting 10 of 20 three pointers and 11 of 21 free throws. 

Spearville was led by Anna Stein with 16 points as they shot 39% from the floor in the game and was six of 13 from three point range. 

The win for Centralia secures their 14th Final Four appearance in school history which is top-10 all time in the state. 

They also tally their 31st state tournament win in school history which is also top 10 all time. 

Up next for Centralia they will play Burlingame on Friday night at 8 PM with a trip to the State Title game on the line. 

Centralia looking for their first State Title since 2016 and sixth in school history.
